Tonight I had the amazing privilege of talking with my nineteen year old son about his journey of faith.
He has always been my analytical one, the one with all the questions. He has never really been satisfied with shallow easy answers. He has forced me to think outside the box and to be able to back up what I say in scripture. He has held me accountable.
I cannot even count the times I’ve sat with him in his room long after bedtime and talked and prayed and looked up scriptures as he wrestled with God about the deeper truths. I have prayed and cried over him many nights.
Since before he was born, I asked God to grow him into a man of faith. A leader and not a follower. The Lord has answered my prayers.
As I sat and listened to him while he recounted a crisis of belief, how he finally felt like all the pieces of his young life were going to be used for God’s glory, I was overcome with thankfulness. He looked at me with unguarded eyes and told me that he was truly changed. He felt God had spoken directly to him. He finally owned his faith more than he ever had.
When you’ve prayed both over a child and with a child all of their lives and they share a testimony like this, you suddenly feel like it was all worth it. Oh, so worth it. (And you may feel like jumping for joy too.)
The reason I shared this and what I want to say to you is DON’T GIVE UP! Don’t give up praying for that child of yours. God is answering and will answer those prayers. HE HEARS!!
I am so thankful for the precious conversation I had with my son, how he shared his heart with me. But his testimony did not happen overnight and it could not have happened without prayer. Lots of prayers.
To God be the Glory. He will answer your prayers too!! Don’t lose heart. It is worth it!
Prayer: Father, help us not to lose heart in praying for our children. May we persevere as You complete your good work. Teach us to listen to Your still small voice as You direct us in how to pray for each and every one. Raise them up to be mighty men and women of faith. In Jesus name, amen.
Galatians 6:9 “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
Oh Sandi how well I know this to be TRUE.!! God is faithful.

Sandi, I have just started reading on your site and absolutely love your posts. Due to present circumstances, this one especially touched my heart. Too often the devil makes us feel like just giving up, and like there is no hope. I will hold this scripture close to my heart to remind me to never give up, and not lose heart in praying for my children.

I am so glad this touched your heart. I write these as a reminder to myself as well. I pray that I will always stay faithful to pray for my kids. And no matter their age, they will always be my “kids.” Thank you for the encouragement, it means a lot. God Bless.
