The dog Hunt

The airport.

Quite possibly one of my least favorite places.

But, it’s a necessary means, so here I was again facing the fear that haunts me.

After I made it through security, which was a breeze, I might add, I headed straight for Starbucks.

I needed distraction. (Hint: coffee.)

As I walked I noticed one of my favorite places, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels. Ugh! I could eat my weight in those things! But, I was already on a mission so I kept going. I made it to Starbucks, got my iced latte, but still felt unsatisfied. Oh well, I thought, no time for pretzels, got a flight to catch. But, as fate would have it, our flight was delayed.

Time for some mini pretzel dogs!

I wandered around and found the Auntie Anne’s I’d passed earlier and got in line; sadly, when it was my turn I was told there weren’t any more mini dogs.

So disappointed.

I made my way to the food court to wait for my flight and, lo and behold, there was another Auntie Anne’s! What?!? It was fate! This time there was no line so I walked right up to the register to order only to be told, yet again, they didn’t have any. This one even went as far as to tell me there weren’t any in the oven either, so I needn’t wait.

Did I look like I might stand there determinedly or something?!? ha!

I found a table and checked my flight, delayed again. I sat there at a table the size of a postage stamp and pouted. I mean, why didn’t anybody have mini pretzels??!!! This was a hard day and was it to much to ask for my favorite snack??

I was within eye shot of the pretzel place and I watched as the line suddenly grew

Hmmm… I know what’s happening, they finally have the dogs, and those people probably have alerts set up on their phone, so they know exactly when to stand in line.

I suddenly my felt like I was on the outside and everybody else was on the inside. They knew stuff I didn’t.

Why was I so emotionally invested in these pretzel dogs?

Because I’m a bit of a fighter, just a bit, mind you, I decided I was GOING TO FIND a place that had mini dogs. So, I went on a search for another Auntie Anne’s, my very own scavenger hunt.

Guess what?!?

I found one.

And, guess what again??

They had some!!!

Now, what if I had given up on the whole idea? My waistline might’ve thanked me, but I would’ve missed out something I really do enjoy.

Was it worth all the trouble? Yeah, it was. It distracted me in a place that makes me nervous. And, in a small way, it helped me realize I don’t give up easily. I needed that confidence boost to face the bigger thing looming in front of me…flying.

I ate those pretzel dogs with the happiest heart.

Have you tried them ?

If so, you’ll understand they were totally worth it.
